Background
The Board is continually developing an MIS
centred around its map based assets and associated records. The system
enables all members of staff to easily update departmental information
and access interdepartmental information.
Information is controlled, edited and updated by
members within each department, i.e. engineering, administration and
finance. This information is then available for all members of staff to
view as 'read only' with no editing capability. The viewing system
(Autodesk Map Guide TM) is extremely easy to use by all personnel and
requires very little training.
Current Developments
Additional features to streamline the issue of
notices of entry and job cards was launched on 14th April 2003. 2004
will see the launch of the Board's byelaw system which controls the
actions of third parties adjacent to Board maintained watercourses.
Future Developments
Later this year further functions are to be added
to assist with estimates, compensation claim processing and channel
maintenance works.
The Board also aims to further develop the system
to enable the direct labour organisation to access and update shared
information, leading to consistent accurate data and, ultimately,
towards the goal of increased efficiency of operation.
Data collection equipment and GPS systems are
also being appraised for their suitability for the acquisition of flood
defence asset data.
To enhance the level of service to the public,
map based information of the Board maintained assets will eventually be
available on the internet for you to view.
