Welcome to the Lindsey Marsh Drainage Board website. From this site you can learn what a drainage board does, where
it operates and the constraints it works within.
Drainage boards have been in existence since the 1930's, continually protecting land, property and life against
flooding from the sea and rivers. Drainage boards are independent bodies accountable to the local community for the flood
protection service they provide.
Lindsey Marsh Drainage Board is the largest drainage board in England, maintaining 973km of arterial watercourse and 30
pumping stations. As well as ensuring that water levels are maintained at an appropriate and safe level, the Board
also has a duty to conserve and enhance the natural environment. Please see the Board's mission and policy statements for
further information.
The present Board was formed in November 2000 by the amalgamation of the Alford Drainage Board, Louth Drainage Board and Skegness District Internal Drainage Board.
